Foki Beach near Fiskardo. Stop at the Foki Taverna for a delicious lunch before you take a dip.

Museums

Kefalonia doesn’t harbour the equivalent of the British Museum or the Louvre - for that you should go to Athens and some of the other major archeological sites, but there are nevertheless many interesting places to visit that retrace the island’s history and showcase the island’s natural attributes.

In Argostoli

Corialenios Historical & Cultural Museum - a really interesting exhibition of folk tradition as well as a fascinating collection of photographs from the 1953 earthquake and the aftermath.

Foka-Kosmetatou Foundation - a small exhibition of photographs from the 1953 earthquake.

The Botanical Gardens - take a walk and enjoy the tranquility of this Mediterranean garden, we particularly love the area in the upper part of the garden around the lake.

In Sami

Archaelogical Collection of Sami (www.same-museum.gr)- an important collection of archeological artefacts. Combine this visit with a trip up to the Acropolis of Ancient Same (direction Antisamos and follow the signposts).

Nautical Museum of Sami (https://nmsamis.gr) - a tribute to the port of Sami’s nautical tradition, showcasing maritime craftsmanship, history and passion originating from the time of the Odyssey.

In Skala

Roman Villa in Skala - impressive display of Roman mosaic floors.

Sights

Some of the other “unmissable” sights that all visitors, especially our young guests:

Melissani Underground Lake - visit this spectacular underground lake on a rowing boat and marvel at the crystal clear turquoise waters, understand the geological phenomenon that brings water to this cave and take a break in its coolness from the summer heat.

Drogarati Cave - take a tour around the stalagmites and stalactites of this deep underground cave.

There are also several earthquake-ruined villages to see: look out for Old Farsa, Old Skala and our favourite, Old Valsamata near Sami.
