🌌 Why Kefalonia Is a Stargazer’s Paradise

High on Mount Aenos, Kefalonia is home to Greece’s first International Dark Sky Park — Aenos Dark Sky Park — officially designated in June 2023. 

This protected area is known for its exceptionally clear, dark night skies, far from urban light pollution. 

Visitors can take part in Aenos Starry Nights — telescope sessions, guided constellation tours (using green lasers), and educational programs on light pollution. 

The Dark Sky Park is managed in part by the Eudoxos Astronomy Complex and the Research Foundation of Kefalonia, which maintain observatories around the 1,070 m plateau of Mt. Aenos.

Here are some of the scheduled “Astro Nights” in Aenos for 2025:

• 8 July — Aenos Astro Night 

• 9 August — Aenos Astro Night 

• 28 August — Aenos Astro Night 

These events are organized through the park’s official site and social media — dates may change, so guests should always check ahead.

From your stay here, guests are just a scenic drive away from the entrance to Aenos National Park. Imagine an evening dinner on the terrace under a gradually darkening sky, followed by a drive into the park for a guided stargazing program.
