Visiting the island…
Conveniently situated in Lakithra, Villa Eleftheria is a perfect base to explore the island. The island’s bus service is minimalist at best; hiring a car is therefore essential if you want to get out and about.
Several of the major car hire companies - Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Europcar, Budget etc - have agencies on the island, but there are a number of very reliable local companies that we usually recommend to our guests. They offer good cars, no hidden costs, and quick and efficient airport pickup and dropoff. There is usually no deposit to pay until you collect the car.
We also often suggest that if you plan to go a little off the beaten track it is worth going for a slightly larger car: some of the more remote beaches have a steep drive down (and back up!), so it’s helpful to have a bit more engine power! We also suggest you book early because the number of hire cars available on the island can be limited.
If you choose not to hire a car, that’s fine too! Samantha can recommend a reliable, friendly taxi: a trip into Argostoli takes about 10 minutes and usually costs about 20€ each way.
